Calculate the properties of Aggergate following test are conducted:
Properties of Aggergate Test
Crushing Strength - Crushing TestHardness - Dorry abrasion test
Rate of Wear - Attriation test
Toughness - Impect test
Durability- Soundness test
Shape factor - Shape test
Abraison value - Loss Angeles test

Aggregate crusing value (A.C.V.):
To test the crushing value of Aggergate we use a sample of Aggregate which passes through 12.5mm sieve and retained on 10 mm sieve
To test the Aggregate crushing we uses a mould i.e cylinder to fill with Aggregate having dimension of diameter 25mm and height 25mm
After filling mould a total load of 40 tone is applied and then allowed to pass through 2.36mm sieve
A.C.V =( W2/W1)×100
W1 =Total weight of sample
W2 =Weight of sample passing through 2.36 mm sieve
also watch Bleeding of concrete
Conclusion :-
If Aggregate is used for Road Pavement or Bitumen pavement top surface (Bearing surface)
A.C.V. should not more than 30%
If Aggregate is used other than bearing surface Road ,
I.e for the base coarse or concrete of road the A.C.V value should not more than 45%
Aggregate Impact Value Test:
In this test Impact Resistance Capacity is calculated.
Apparatus used for impact resistance
Mould Size 10.2 cm diameter and 5cm height
In this test after filling with Aggregate a 14kg Hammer is released from 38 cm height ,15 times and after that the Sample is allowed to pass through 2.36 mm Sieve .
No.'s of blow = 15
A.I.V Value =( W2/W1)×100
Where W1=Total weight of sample
W2=Weight of sample passing through 2.36 mm sieve.
Conclusion:-
If Aggregate is used for Road Pavement or Bitumen pavement top surface (Bearing surface)
A.I.V. should not more than 30%
If Aggregate is used other than bearing surface Road ,
I.e for the base coarse or concrete of road the A.I.V value should not more than 45%
Aggregates Abrasion Value (A.A.V.)
To find Agg. Abrasion Value lose Angeles machine is used ,
In this test after filling mould with
Aggregate it is rotated 28-33 RPM till 1000revolutions after that Sample is allowed to pass through 1.70mm sieve
A.A.V = (W2/W1)×100
Where W1=Total weight of sample
W2=Weight of sample passing through 1.70 mm sieve.
Conclusion
If Aggregate is used for Road Pavement or Bitumen povement top surface (Bearing surface)
A.A.V. should not more than 30%
If Aggregate is used other than bearing surface Road ,
I.e for the base coarse or concrete of road the A.A.V value should not more than 50%
