1). Cantilever Retaining wall 

 these walls are having height up to 6m.

These walls are designed in the form of 3 cantilever Slabs i.e. Heel., toe & 

stem.

2). Counter fort retaining wall 

• these walls are provided with a lateral support b/w heel & stem. 

this support is known as buttress or counterfeit

• There walls are provided when height is more than 6m

3). Gravity type retaining wall

• these walls are the types whose self weight is used to resist all external 

forces.

• It is provided up to height of 0.3 m

• Main r/f is provided along water face of stem
