FORMWORK
- Formwork is mould or a supporting structure into which concrete is poured until it attains sufficient strength to carry its own weight.
- It should have ability of carrying all dead and live loads other than its own weight.

- Steel and Timber are the materials most commonly used for formwork and some other materials like plastics, aluminium etc are also used.
REQUIRED PROPERTY OF FORMWORK
- Strong and enough to resist the pressure or the weight of concrete.

- It should be sufficiently rigid so that it can retain the shape with any deformation.
- Economical in terms of the total cost of the form.
- Sufficiently watertight to avoid leakage at the joint.
TYPES OF FORMWORK
- Timber formwork
- Steel formwork
- Plywood formwork
- Aluminium formwork
- Plastics formwork
TIMBER FORMWORK
- Timber is a popular formwork material. It has been using from ancient age. It is light weight, easy to fix or remove.
- It is also economical and easy available in different sizes.
STEEL FORMWORK
- Steel formwork are stronger, durable and have longer life than timber formwork and their reuses are more in number.
- The installation and dismantling of steel forms are very easy and fast.
- The quality of exposed concrete surface by using steel forms is good and such surface need no further treatment.
- Steel formwork does not absorb moisture from concrete.
- Steel formwork does not shrink or wrap.
Foundation and Types of foundation
PLYWOOD FORMWORK
- Plywood is most common material used for facing panel.
- It is easy to cut and obtain required shape on site, and if handle and store carefully, it can be used for multiple times.
- A standard plywood thickness on site is 18mm. This is usually support for most pours.
- However, if formwork is curved then a thinner plywood is used to facilitate bending.
ALUMINIUM FORMWORK
- Aluminium Formwork System is speedy, simple, acceptable and very economical.
- It is unique because it forms all of the concrete in a building including walls, floor slabs, columns, beams, stairs etc.
- It gives high dimensional accuracy and smooth finishing of concrete, which eliminates need of costly plastering.
- It is light weight and easy to handle.
