Ferrocement
As we know that the traditional Concrete is too heavy, also it is brittle In nature and Can't be repaired Satisfactorily if damaged, also develops crack, undergoes Corrosion In Reinforcement hence a raw Material was required to overcome these Shortcomings
Ferrocement consist of wire mesh and Cement mortar which offers all the above advantages
The Wire mesh is usually of 0.5-1.0 mm diameter and having Spacing 5-10 mm, Cement Mortar used In this case is 1: 2-1: 3 with W/c = 0.4 - 0.45 .
The ferrocement element usually of the order 2-3 cm in thickness with 2-3 mm external Cover .
The steel Content varies between 300-500 K/ m3 of mortar
The basic idea is that Concrete Undergo large Strain in neighbourhood of reinforcement and Magnitude of Strain depends on distribution of reinforcement throughout the mass of Concrete , which is eliminated in this case
