The following are types of Mat Foundations-
In this article, I discussed various types of mat foundations.
1. Flat plate.
This type of mat is of uniform thickness throughout along entire length and breadth.
2. Flat plate thickened under columns.
In this type of mat foundation, the thickness of the plate is thickened under the column.
3. Beams and slab.
In this type of mat foundation, the beams run both ways, and the columns are located at the intersection of the beams.
4. Flat plates with pedestals.
In this type of mat foundation, a pedestal is constructed below the column and above the mat slab as shown in Fig.
5. Slab with basement walls as a part of the mat.
In this type of mat foundation, the walls act as stiffeners for the mat
